Fashion fades, style is forever.

I remember always going to thrift stores when I was younger with my mother and my auntie. My mother would mostly go to buy china ware sets, but I would always wander off to look at toys and books. Well I guess my thrift store roots have returned because I've been thrifting a lot lately! I've been shopping at Crossroad Co. and Moon Zooom's for a while, but just recently started going to Saver's. Saver's is awesome because it offers more than just clothing items! I've decided to share some of the rad items I've found!

So my friend and I were thinking about getting matching tattoos before I move to Los Angeles to symbolize our friendship. We have no idea what to get, but one idea was a hummingbird, so I decided to do a quick sketch of a hummingbird! I was also inspired to draw a hummingbird, after I saw this comment on one of my friend's instagram pictures, user: maxthailand. I'm going to plagiarize and paste it here ha...

I also heard from another friend(he has a sammarai hummingbird tattoo) that in Aztec culture(or something...) believed that their warriors were reincarnated as hummingbirds, which I think is pretty cool.

And just a random fact from what I learned in my organismal biology class is that they belong to the order Apodiformes along with swifts(the fastest birds). Hummingbirds are highly adaptive with their long beaks so that they can reach the nectar of certain flowers, and their wings move in a figure 8 so that they can fly in place.

I also just included that quote from Shakespeare because it sounds so sweet. I never read The Tempest though, so who knows if it's really sweet or not ha.

Beauty in Death.

Just decided to post up some day of the dead art that I've done just because I'm obsessed with that type of art. Most people are fearful of death but in some areas such as Mexico or Tibet death is celebrated and recognized as part of the life cycle.

Like Tupac said in one of his DVD's "At most death is heaven, at least it's just nothing, quiet, peaceful..." I probably didn't quote him right, but I couldn't find the exact quote online. You can hear him talk about death for yourself in a documentary called Tupac - Ressurection. Very interesting DVD, one of my favorites. You can buy it off Amazon.

A recent sketch I did. I love flowy hair, and flowers.

There are tons of dead Marilyn Monroe art. Just decided to practice sketching and sketched something similar to what I saw online.

Did something more fun with this. Used ink, and put a day of the dead twist on a portrait of The Virgin Mary. The writing says "My Pretty Face Is Going To Hell." Decided to use that quote after watching a HIM - Gone with the Sin video on YouTube. Ville Valo's jacket said "Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell," and that title is a Stooges song as well. Just a painting I started working on. Will post up the aftermath in a later blog! It's on a decent size canvas around 4ft x 2.5ft. Ehh... I'm not really good as guessing measurements. Can't wait to hang it on my wall when I move to LA. UCLA baby!
